Let's hope to start September on a better note. My first tips regard the European Championships Qualifiers which mainly take place tomorrow.

I have selected a double with wins for England and France. Both nations have been among the under achievers in South Africa and both have made significant changes to their teams.

After a good Europa League tip with odds over 3, I will be looking to get back in green territory with the English and Italian weekend matches.

I believe there is extremely good value on Inter winning away at Bologna. The reigning Italian and European champions are still the powerhouse of the Italian football and will play their opening match on Monday due to their European Super Cup commitment later on today. They should have enough depth in their squad to see off both matches.

Bologna - Inter : 2 @ 1.62 [1 unit] LOSE

Sampdoria have suffered elimination from the Champions League after the 3-2 thriller last Tuesday. They host Lazio and the extra match practice should make the difference, leading to a home win.

Sampdoria - Lazio : 1 @ 2.2 [1 unit] WIN

Same reasoning with Palermo - Cagliari. The home team have already played a couple of competative matches. In addition the Sicilian team will look for a good start of a season which may see them fight for the more prestigeous European spot.

Palermo - Cagliari : 1 @ 1.75 [1 unit] LOSE

 

Roma, Milan and Liverpool should all win their matches as they all play at home against newly promoted sides. I'll go for a treble.

After a disappointing tip which with hindsight I should have avoided, I wil try to make amends with a treble bet in the Europa League.

3 top European teams which in my opinion need to win and should win easily. PSV (1st leg 1-0 loss), Lille (1st leg 0-0) and Fenerbache (1st leag 1-0 loss) should be able to overturn the results and qualify easily.

PSV - Sibir : 1 (AH -1.5) @ 1.5 &

Lille - Vaslui : 1 @ 1.33 &

Fenerbache - PAOK : 1 @ 1.53

After a decent weekend I am looking to get closer to green territory by betting on some mid-week matches.

Today's pick is an Over 2.5 between Hapoel and Salzburg. The first match ended 3-2 for the Israeli team and the Austrian side have to score at least 2 goals to make the big cut. Also, Hapoel have a history of scoring goals and I cannot imagine them defending their 1 goal advantage.

After a very difficult start to the season I will try to be a bit more cautious and avoid seemingly easy bets.

Hoping to be third time lucky, I will back Spurs to find their first win of the season. Although possibly fatigued by the midweek match, Redknapp's team should have enough depth to see off Stoke. If Tottenham want to challenge for a Champions League spot they need to win these matches and I'll take the over evens odds.

Everton are one of my favorite teams and never should have lost their opening match. They will surely bounce back and led by the quality of Arteta and Cahill should be a safe bet at home against Wolves.

Finally, I believe that Blackpool will get back to their senses after their wonderful yet bizarre start to their life in the Premier League. Arsenal should see of this quite easily and I expect a win by at least 2 goals.

We've got some ground to cover after the first set of matches. Although I am disappointed with the results, I am also well aware that barring Wigan's match, I was on the right road.

After watching Tottenham's wonderful performance against Manchester City, I am going to go with them for tonight's match against Young Boys as they try to secure a place in this year's Champions League.

The Premier League kicks off on Saturday and we immediately have some hot encounters on schedule. Four tips on the first day and hopefully a good start to this campaign.

Tottenham host Manchester City in the early kick off. Not an easy one to predict but I reckon that there will be goals between these two sides and an Over 2.5 is very likely.

Sunderland will hope to improve on last season's 13th place and must keep up their home record (9-7-3 in 2009/2010) in order to do so. Birmingham will, as usual, look to defend and I can't see them get the 3 points. Asian handicap on the Black Cats should be a safe and value bet.

Off to another team which looks for better results this time around. Wigan have improved their squad with the arrivals of Boselli and Alcaraz. They should be able to secure all three points at home against one of the weaker sides of the Premier League, Blackpool.

Finally, Chelsea host West Brom and will be looking for a convincing result after their 3-1 slump against Manchester United last week. I expect them to win by at least 2 goals and will go for an Asian Handicap to that effect.

I usually avoid International Friendlies, but I'll make an exception for Italy who play Ivory Coast in London later on today. After a hugely disappointing World Cup, the Italians are looking to start a new cycle and new boss Cesare Prandelli started the revolution by calling 3 big absentees from this Summer's competition, Cassano, Balotelli and Amauri. I'm expecting a good match from Italy and although it's just a friendly, they will go an extra mile to win this one.

Whilst the proper season starts next Saturday, Manchester United and Chelsea battle for the first silverware of the campaign, the Community Shield. As usual, any match between these two giants of world football can go either way, but from what I've witnessed in preseason, the Red Devils should be a step ahead.

August 2010. Football mania is around the corner. Millions will attempt to make some serious money through betting and although most will fail to make it to the rich list, a handful manage to make a good living out of it.

Unluckilly, I am not one of those. Never had the guts to put in big money. However, my ratios have always been positive and starting from this season I will share my ideas on an ongoing basis through this blog.

For the sake of keeping track of my results the index will start at 100.00 units. With each tip I will indicate the number of units staked and the relevant odds.
